Baby: Why does my baby have rashes and how do I treat them?

Most babies develop rashes and even acne during the first few months. The reason is they still have mommy’s hormones inside of their system. Ashton had rashes when he was 2 to 4 months, add to that some cradle cap (the scale-like skin on your baby’s scalp).

My sister told me to use a certain acne gel for Ashton, which she also used for her baby. However, the pediatrician told me it is best to leave it alone, including the cradle cap which many moms put baby oil on. Actually, the oil will just loosen the scales but they will come back before you know it. It may also cause infant acne.

I therefore conclude (like in a mommy science class), that it is really best to let nature run its course and not apply anything on babies’ sensitive skin. You may also use breast milk in treating the facial rashes of your baby – this I heard from another mom and it worked well. She even used breast milk on her face to treat post pregnancy acne.
