May 10, 2015 (Sunday) is officially Mother’s Day – good opportunity to treat ourselves, family and our own moms to something special and most of all, create new bonding memories.
Of all the usual places in Tagaytay (the only place she allows me to treat her), I’ve never taken my mom to Restaurant Verbena in Discovery Country Suites. I’ve never been myself until this weekend with my spouse. Read: I thought the place was exclusive to hotel guests, the place has this high end exclusive look to it but now I know it’s friendly to walk-in customers. Well, time to impress our families by choosing Verbena Restaurant of Discovery Country Suites!
This is their Mother’s Day setup for May 9-10 Mother’s Day weekend. The afternoon tea dessert buffet is Php 850 per person.
Cakes: Red velvet, strawberry shortcake, hummingbird cake (banana, pineapple spice cake).
Cookies: homey chocolate chip cookies in two versions, soft and crunchy.
Muffins: blueberry muffins and more in perfect bite sizes.

Did I say impress-ive? My mom’s the hardest person in the world to satisfy and her approval is gold. Like all moms her attention to detail and her heart at work is excellent. The strawberry shortcake reminds me of my mother’s pineapple upside down cake. So much so I asked how it was made.
There is no secret ingredient to the perfect melt in your mouth sponge cake, the pastry chef (Rhea) would never take a shortcut to beating the egg whites, then the yolks, and being focused on this dessert until it is excellently made.
The nice setup is like a fancy kiddie party for moms, one we or our own moms must have wished for when we were young but didn’t have. Of course the site is in Tagaytay so expect nice gentle breeze while your family enjoy celebrating Mother’s Day.
Restaurant Verbena also offers a special lunch and dinner menu for Mother’s Day, May 9-10. Among all dishes, I will recommend the strawberry fields salad and the bacon wrapped roast beef in truffle oil and mushroom.
