Many of us worry about not having enough money, support, and resources to attend college. You could be an undergraduate reading this or, a mother like me planning for her child’s future. The good news is that there are many scholarship programs being offered not just by colleges, universities, and local governments but also by private corporations.
WATCH: SM Foundation College Scholarship Program
One of them is SM Foundation’s College Scholarship Program. I for one only learned about it recently when they celebrated their 20th batch of scholar-graduates (20th batch!). This year, SM Foundation produced 71 honor students of which, 4 are summa cum laude, 11 are magna cum laude, 44 are cum laude, and 12 finished with academic distinction.
The graduates took courses in accountancy, computer science, information technology, education, computer engineering, electronics and communications engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering and mechanical engineering.
How SM Foundation selects scholars
SM Foundation searches for underprivileged but deserving youth to be awarded the SM College Scholarships. Each scholar enjoys full tuition subsidy, a monthly stipend and job opportunities during Christmas and summer breaks. Upon graduation, all college scholars are offered option of full time jobs in SM but are under no obligation to join the company. Technical-vocational scholars also find gainful employment here and abroad.

SM Foundation has other programs that can also interest mothers like me who are into backyard farming. They have this 12-week farmers’ training program on effective backyard planting and small-scale farming techniques for fruits and vegetables.
