SM supermalls started lighting up their Christmas trees a few weeks ago, almost simultaneously! We were lucky to witness at least one of them this year while in SM Southmall.
Every year, each SM Supermalls will have different themes and this year, SM Southmall’s activity center was transformed into a magical winter forest – with two magnificent giant reindeers. When we arrived, light effects were not yet on but many shoppers were already taking selfies.

A few minutes later, the orchestra started to play Christmas songs. The crowd started to gather and were rewarded with a magical short play entitled “Tale of Christmas Forest”.
Our kid really focused and enjoyed the entire play – and for free! The kid actors, actresses were from Stages. Shoppers that afternoon are very lucky. Aside from the story that highlighted the value of kindness, the Winter Fairy (character) also rendered two songs that signaled the official tree lighting.
SM Southmall’s tree is not the usual green, triangle-shaped tree but more of a forest that shoots upward and wide from the center of the supermall. It’s very beautiful and everything, especially the program really promoted the Christmas spirit and feelings of love and giving.
I am really very proud of the Filipino Christmas. SM Supermalls, has been a big part of this grand tradition for many years. It’s not all about shopping but spending time together with our loved ones.
Children from SOS Children’s Villages and Child Haus were the VIPs during the program and all the kids were given a special gift from SM Southmall after the short program.
