How I use Domex: Germ-Free Toilet Hacks

Did you know? November 19 was World Toilet Day. I only found out on Facebook when fellow moms started using #WorldToiletDay hash tag and #1MCleanToilets. These were campaigns by Domex Philippines to educate Filipinos on proper toilet cleaning.

While cleaning our toilets is the last thing you want to think of, some moms including myself find it therapeutic! Cleaning in general can keep us preoccupied and allow us to clear our minds. But more importantly, maintaining a clean and germ-free home is vital to our family’s health.

Here are some of my personal toilet hacks you can try to make cleaning your toilets more efficient and comfortable. Don’t forget to play your favorite playlist while cleaning too!

Germ-Free Toilet Hacks with Domex

1. Prepare all your cleaning weapons and tools – everything is easier to do when you have the right tools. Here are my personal toilet cleaning essentials:

– Brush mop: for the toilet tiles
– 360 mop: this mop allows you to wring your mop hands-free and reach corners of your CR- Toilet brush

You also want to wear the following:

– disposable face mask
– disposable rubber gloves

These two will make it more comfortable for you to clean without worrying of getting yourself contaminated with toilet germs. Maniwala kayo sa akin dahil I am an ordinary person who really have experience in cleaning our toilets!

2. Prepare your all around cleaning solution – I use Domex which is a thick bleach solution ever since. Domex can be prepared and used in many ways, here is how I prepare my Domex to clean the entire CR or toilet:

– Pure thick bleach: for use in the toilet bowl
– 1 cap diluted in 1 pail (timba) of water: for use in cleaning your toilet tiles/floor with the brush mop and 360 mop
– Domex in spray bottle: for this, just get from the Domex + water solution. Use this for spot cleaning and for my last tip later.
– Water + vinegar 1:1 solution for cleaning your toilet mirrors, water grips, counter tops, etc.

3. 3 Steps to Germ-Free Bowl

– Apply Domex thick bleach along rim of your bowl, this will kill all germs dead. Thick bleach stays long enough to destroy harmful germs unlike thin bleach.
– Let Domex sit (ibabad) in the bowl and wait at least 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, I like using the toilet brush to scrub stains away which becomes easier to remove because of Domex.
– Finally, flush your toilet bowl. Did you know? Domex actually stays on the bowl for at least 7 flushes making it germ and odor free for longer.

4. Make it easier for other users i.e. family members, visitors (lalo na ngayong Pasko!) to keep the toilet clean.

– Make toilet paper available
– Display the spray bottle so users can spray the toilet bowl and wipe it before & after using especially when they sprinkle when they tinkle! Moms with little boys like myself knows this!
– Keep trash can visible and within reach
– Provide hand towels so family members can dry their hands after washing and prevent wet spots on the floor

5. Use indoor small plants or flowers to keep your bathroom fresh & beautiful

– Succulent plants are easy to buy, you can find them now in supermarkets, markets, or along the side of the road in places like Tagaytay. These plants purify the air and adds a refreshing pop of color in your bathroom. This will inspire you and others to keep your bathroom tidy, clean, and germ-free.

Join the movement to keep toilets clean for our family’s and our nation’s health. I know many of our kababayans don’t have access to proper toilets and many of the public toilets are not very clean. Like the saying goes, cleanliness as with everything else, starts at our own homes.

Keep up the good work Mommies and stay on top of keeping your homes germ-free!
