Are you looking for something different to watch on TV while satisfying the scientist inside you or your kids? We rarely watch cable TV these days, blame YouTube but one weekend we chanced on National Geographic’s Mars.
The series is unlike any other, the fictional plot of starting life on Mars is based on actual science, space exploration, with commentary from experts themselves. It’s like a combination of your favorite sci-fi series and a documentary, all rolled into one visually appealing series.
Mars hooked us and from time to time, our son would ask questions about it. We also have to explain how this show is just fiction and what could happen on humanity’s mission to Mars. I would say the series is best for older kids 14 and up, my son who is just 6 enjoyed parts of the series and then proceed building rocketships with his Lego toys.
If there’s one thing this series tell us is that until now, we only have one planet to call home. It’s easier to make changes now and to stop climate change, overpopulation, etc. versus starting on a brand new planet somewhere in space. After watching the series, you’d feel very lucky to be here on earth where everything is suitable for us not to mention – gravity, water, and oxygen!
