Annam Noodle Bar at Resorts World Manila: A Taste of Vietnamese Food

Are you a fan of delicious, fresh, and healthy Vietnamese food? We are! And I know that there’s only a few Vietnamese restaurants in the city to choose from. The good news is Annam Noodle Bar just opened in Resorts World Manila.

Annam is brought to the Philippines by the popular NamNam Noodle Bar in Singapore. The only difference is the name they had to use for the Philippines but it’s the same delicious Pho, Banh Mi, and Vietnamese Rice Meals inspired by the old-world Vietnamese street food with a modern twist.

What to Order at Annam Noodle Bar

While it’s easy to order the usual fresh spring rolls with peanut sauce dip, Annam Noodle Bar restaurant’s interior style and feel are very encouraging to try something new.

It’s easy to imagine that you are in a different place and must take your appetite to a new adventure.

Annam’s menu is exciting with all the choices of appetizers, banh mi sandwiches, pho noodle soups, and Viet desserts too!

Selection of Viet street snacks, nước chấm, P280 – this sampler is recommended to enjoy as your appetizer. It’s good for sharing and has at least 4 kinds of fried rolls. The dip is delicious but you can customize with Annam’s signature fish and hoisin sauces.

Lemon Grass Ginger Iced Tea P150 – the drink is super fresh, herb-y, and reminds me of my favorite ginger tea or salabat. I like that it’s not made too sweet and is very light to enjoy with the all the dishes.

Summer Feels: Sustainable Seafood Experience at Sofitel Philippine Plaza

With luxury comes great responsibility! Accor Hotels Philippines which is comprised by Mercure Manila Ortigas, Novotel Manila Araneta Center, Raffles and Fairmont Makati, and Sofitel Philippine Plaza raised awareness and renewed their commitment to sustainable fishing practices.

What is Sustainable Seafood?

It’s not everyday that we really think of where our sushi came from but if you want to be a responsible foodie, take note that the following species are endangered: shark, ray, bluefin tuna, grouper, sturgeon, and wild caviar. Accor Hotels in the Philippines do not serve these species as part of their commitment to sustainable seafood.

Another way hotels can support green fishing practices is by sourcing more seafood items in the Philippines. Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila serves sustainable seafood with room service and in all its restaurants, including Spiral, Le Bar, Sunset Bar, Snaps, Club Millesime. Currently, 10% of its seafood items, including mackerel, lobster and tuna from the Philippines (except yellow fin), are sourced through certified MSC/ASC sustainable seafood providers that offer sustainable seafood and featured at Spiral’s “Hooked at Spiral” seafood night every Wednesday. The hotel is committed to increasing its sustainable seafood usage to 50% in the next three years. Good news to our fishermen!

Affordable Luxury Dining at Paradise Dynasty

Paradise Dynasty first opened in Singapore in 2010 and since then, the restaurant that features Northen Chinese cuisine is making big waves with their famous Xiao Long Bao – apart from other delectable dishes. Just last year, Paradise Group made its presence known right here in the Philippines with its famous eight flavours xiao long baos. Paradise Dynasty, the Legend of Xiao Long Bao is nestled in an equally opulent location at  the 2nd Level of S Maison, Conrad Hotel, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City.

Dining Experience fit for a King and Queen

I first heard of Paradise Dynasty on Instagram as my friends started to take photos of differently colored Xiao Long Baos. Apart from the cuisine, I read positive reviews about the restaurant’s mesmerizing setting. Being married for 6 years, my husband and I long for new dining experiences that are different, exciting, and a little bit exotic.

Here is one of the dining areas of Paradise Dynasty. Isn’t it beautiful and regal? The view of the Manila Bay coupled with imperial interior design elements is really something. My favorite piece in this paradise is their majestic dragons.

Surprisingly Affordable

We went prepared to splurge a little but were very surprised to know that Paradise Dynasty offers affordable dining experience. Everything just exceeded our expectations. The place and their dishes, both visually and gastronomically appealing, far exceeds the price that customers pay. Here is what we ordered.

What to Order at Paradise Dynasty Philippines

Radish Pastry, P138 for 3 pcs.

We first ordered their radish pastry that is easily of artisinal quality. It is warm, crispy, flaky, but remains very attractive to eat in that the pastry stays put and not crumble apart.

Special Dynasty Xiao Long Bao, P388 for 8 pcs.

Xiao Long Bao can also be treated as an appetizer (so says the very professional staff at Paradise Dynasty). Of course, we ordered the Special Dynasty Xiao Long Bao or the 8 colored xiao long baos. It is a recommended way to find your favorite flavor from the selection: Signature, Garlic, Ginseng, Foie Gras, Szechuan, Cheese, Crab Roe, and Black Truffle Xia Long Bao. My favorites are the Ginseng and Crab Roe flavors.

Stir Fried La Mian with Shredded Pork and Black Fungus, P238

This La Mian is good for sharing as most of the dishes in Paradise Dynasty. It is very savory and compatible with the gentle flavors of the Xiao Long Baos. I always like to eat my noodles and pancit with bread or siopao but to make our date experience more memorable – I ordered something we’ve never tried.

Pan-fried Shanghai Pork Bun, P138 for 3 pcs.

This pork buns also has a Xaio Long Bao twist. It has soup at the bottom and I like how half of the bun appears toasted which makes this item sweet, soft, crispy and savory all at the same time.

Chilled Jellyfish and Seafood in Vinaigrette, P250

This dish is perhaps the sexiest here in Paradise Dynasty. It is exotic with a hint of spice that gently bites your lips. The flavor is delicate and the texture is playful – something different out of the ordinary. A must order for romantic diners.

Poached Beef in Szechuan Chili Oil, P688

My husband is a fan of spicy soups and Paradise Dynasty, an authentic Chinese restaurant that serves Szechuan dishes is not without a hot soup for its patrons. Order the Poached Beef in Szechuan Chili Oil for a different chili experience. I recommend you order it less spicy because they are very serious with the chili oil. Many Chinese diners really like their food hot and spicy.

Note this is a big bowl that is absolutely for sharing.

Steamed Glutinous Rice Stuffed in Red Dates, P230

It is tempting to end our date with my favorite fried mantou bread but as I said, we need to shake things up and so ordered something new again. Here comes red dates an exotic fruit we never really ever tried even when friends and family bring them from the Middle East. I must say this was a very good and delicious first time for us, I never knew dates could taste this sweet, soft, and a little addicting.

Book your table

Paradise Dynasty is already popular with new and loyal patrons coming in regularly. It is suggested to book your table a few days before your date or visit. I prefer dining at sunset to night time – that way it’s not too bright to sit near the glass windows but you still get to appreciate the Manila Bay sunset then the majestic setting of Paradise Dynasty as they light up the restaurant for dinner.

It’s been a long time since a restaurant made me feel this way and I cannot wait to return with my husband again. They also have a private dining area with a minimum of P8,000 spend if you want to dine with your whole family.

Starbucks Philippines today launched new handcrafted beverage offerings along with never before seen lunch choices. Order a different drink on your next visit and try these beautiful and unique tasting espresso creations:

TAHITIAN VANILLA MACCHIATO

This is your summer espresso drink. Enjoy it cold or hot (I prefer hot) and wait for the floral accents and Tahitian vanilla syrup for a playful twist on your usual macchiato. It is also topped with velvety steamed milk  and finished with an authentic crosshatch of vanilla bean sauce and topped with ground vanilla bean pod sprinkles. You know you’ll have a good day when you start it with this flavorful and playful kind of macchiato!

VALENCIA ORANGE COCOA CAPPUCCINO

Short – 145, Tall – 155,  Grande 170, Venti– 185

While it looks more of a dessert than a drink, this really is a cappuccino with an orange twist. It’s an exciting drink to try and yes, suits the summer season with it’s fruity hint. Decadent Valencia Orange Mocha Sauce combined with milk, topped with dense creamy, cappuccino-worthy foam, then layered with affogato-style signature espresso shots, perfectly sweet cocoa powder and tartly-sweet bits of orange peel to add even more flavor.

I recommend to enjoy this on your next Starbucks night cap.

Order the Cold Soba with Chicken, wherein delicate soba noodles are tossed in savory dressing with crunchy vegetables and chicken flakes, and Sweet Potato Salad, a hearty salad of sweet potato, potato, onion, celery, mixed greens and hard-boiled egg tossed in honey mustard dressing.

Also spotted a new Strawberry Torte Cake that I also took home, this time for midnight snack. I can’t wait to enjoy this inside a Starbucks Store with the new Tahitian Machiatto.

Spotted at Starbucks SM Bacoor today are these new summer-perfect and colorful tumblers. They cost P675 each and I got this as my new water bottle to bring to my summer outings.

Sofitel Spiral offers Chinese New Year Specials: What to Look For in the Buffet!

Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila has a flavorful feast in store for the upcoming Chinese New Year from January 25 to 29. The iconic Spiral Buffet will feature Year of the Rooster specials prepared by  Spiral’s culinary artisan, Chinese Chef Michael Tai.

In our recent Spiral buffet dining experience, these specials were on preview and they look as amazing as they taste. It is tradition and belief that starting the year with prosperity and happiness will bring good fortune for the rest of the new year. The “Bian Nian Hao He” concept of Sofitel  makes this feast possible and memorable for all families and friends to experience.

Sofitel Manila could not make Chinese New Year more special. What I really like about the offerings aside from their taste is how auspicious everything looks. It does contribute to a positive feeling and sentiments of happiness, wealth, and prosperity while enjoying the bountiful feast.

NY Style BBQ Experience at Mighty Quinn’s

There’s a new concept restaurant in the Metro and straight from New York, Mighty Quinn’s is now grilling its famous barbecue dishes here in SM Megamall’s Fashion Hall. We learned about the store’s opening on Instagram and read how Mighty Quinn’s was featured on the New York Times as one of the best.

Mighty Quinn’s Manila branch is attractive to hungry diners who want quality food and ambiance but at the same time, want to have their meals fast. The restaurant just like its international branches, follow a cafeteria style of dining.

How to Order at Mighty Quinn’s

Step 1: Choose your meat – brisket is a very good choice for starters like me who just want to have a taste of what Mighty Quinn’s is all about. The brisket was also featured on the New York Times. Can you imagine? You can enjoy New York’s famous slow-cooked barbecue without leaving the Philippines.

Step 2: Choose your side dish – I highly recommend the broccoli and sweet potato casserole for your side dish. They go very well with any meat and are healthy too! Less guilt means you can enjoy your slab of meat more.

The sweet potato casserole is my favorite Mighty Quinn’s side dish, it also has a smoky flavor that compliments my brisket. Did you know? Sweet potatoes are good for your abs ;)

You can choose as many side dishes as you like and Mighty Quinn’s has plenty of choices. On my first time here, I had three side dishes with the addition of the slaw topped with pickled cucumbers.

Step 3: Choose your drink & dessert – Mighty Quinn’s bread pudding served with ice cream on top is a must-try. You can get a number and asked it to be served after your meal. My husband and I shared an order of this bread pudding.

This is a lunch date with my husband and we enjoyed the cafeteria style dining of Mighty Quinn’s. We got a taste of New York culture without leaving Manila and have you ever enjoyed your meal on a tray lined with paper? If not, you will at Mighty Quinn’s.

My Mighty Meal at Mighty Quinn’s – MQ is very generous with servings, the brisket was gloriously soft and the meat just falls apart. Now I know what old fashion way of cooking barbecue with time and wood tastes like.

The wooden interiors, warm lighting is very cozy. Maybe that’s why we enjoyed and stayed long enough for desserts. The restaurant also has wifi but it was not working very well when we dined – they were on soft opening.

Don’t forget the dessert!

We dined on a weekday yet there were plenty of other diners, still the space remained chill and cool with all Mighty Quinn’s diners.
