Summer-Ready Skin Tips & Treatments That Work

Summer-ready skin takes time to achieve, especially if you’re prone to body acne. These tips are based on my experience dealing with occasional break outs on my face and I do get back acne / backne too. While these things should not keep anyone from enjoying their outings and wearing their favorite swimsuit, skin conditions can make anyone feel self-conscious and less confident.

Spot all the sunblock lotion! :D It’s better to be crazy applying sunblock or pay the price with damaged skin later

Here are some of my tried and tested tips you can try at home including some skincare procedures you can try to achieve a more flawless skin in time for summer.

At Home Solutions for Summer-Ready Skin:

1. Exfoliate – you read this tip all the time but here are details that will help. Exfoliate your face and body 2-3x a week to remove dead skin cells. I find that unlike others, my skin really needs manual exfoliation or the build up of dead skin cells will clog my pores and give me acne.

I use an organic scrub of coffee grounds and sea salt, with virgin coconut oil.

2. Moisturize – dry skin makes it easy for pimple-causing bacteria to enter your skin. Find a good face moisturizer (I use Sensilia Moisturizing Cream on my face, I got it from Luminisce Skin Clinic) and for the body, use a light weight body lotion (I use Aveeno right now).

3. Spot treat with acne gel – If you have spots on your body like chest, arms, and back, try applying a topical anti-acne gel. I currently use  Adapelene Gel and apply it before putting on body lotion.

Skincare Procedures / Treatments for Summer-Ready Skin

If your skin condition is severe such as persistent body acne on your chest, back, and arms that don’ improve even after regular exfoliation, spot treatment, and moisturization, then maybe it’s time to consult the professionals. Here are skin treatments I tried that reveal clearer, smoother skin.

1. Chemical body peel – I tried this several years ago and it really works. Face and body peels instantly reveal younger and healthier looking skin after say 2-4 weeks. It also helps to clear out acne and you can undergo this treatment even if you have active pimples.

Recently, I consulted a dermatologist at Luminisce Skin Clinic (Podium Branch) and it was recommended that I try their body peel while I can’t remember the name, I know it is a combination of peeling solutions that are safe and the downtime is around 2 weeks.

Be sure to get a peel at least 1-2 months before you go to the beach to avoid pigmentation when super new skin is exposed to the sun.

2. Starwalker Angel White Laser – if your problem is acne scars and blemishes, this is an instant solution that you can find at Luminisce Skin Clinic. My first experience with this treatment is with my underarms then it was recommended that I try it for my back which had pigmentation and acne marks. I was very happy with just 1 session, it lightened acne marks and evened out my skin tone. I can only imagine how amazing it is if you get 2-3 sessions since the laser shatters all types of pigmentation on any part of the body.

3.  Full Radiance and Acne Clear Laser – summer means a lot of sweating and potential breakouts. Just last month, I tried this facial which is safe even if you’re going to the beach! This facial will rescue you from acne armageddon whether it’s on your face, chest, back, or arms. I had my face undergo the Full Radiance facial at Luminisce and then their Acne Clear Laser technology too.

The Full Radiance facial gently exfoliates to remove dead skin cells, impurities and to help younger skin to surface. The Acne Clear Laser kills acne causing bacteria painlessly. According to the Luminisce website, the Acne Clear Laser normalizes the blood vessels surrounding the wound healing process to lessen the inflammation and hasten skin healing. In a few sessions, you can notice the difference with smoother, even-toned skin. This is the safest yet most effective solution to acne inflammation, redness, and flushing!

You can get this treatment even just a few days before your summer outing.

Summer Skin Care Regimen

Now that you can enjoy the beach in full confidence, thanks to your flawless skin – it’s important to ensure that your skin stays healthy and smooth all throughout the season.

This is my current skincare regimen. All of them are very mild yet effective. I’m not keen on trying different products so I like to follow what the dermatologist recommends. These are all from Luminisce Skin Clinic. I like the moisturizer the most, as mentioned above.

One item in my regimen that stays forever is the Luminisce Sunblock which I’m using for at least 3 years now. It’s so nice to use in beach trips because it’s like a BB cream (without clogging) and evens out my skin tone without having to wear makeup. Of course, you have to wear your sunglasses to avoid eye wrinkles during the summer time.

Luminisce Skin Clinic is my current choice for a friendly skin laser clinic that has the latest technology. I also like Dra. Kaycee Reyes’ holistic approach that yield natural-looking results. The nurses and staff are very caring and professional too. They have two branches one in BGC and another at the newly opened The Podium in Ortigas. I go to their BGC clinic which is nearer for me. You can contact them through Facebook or their website http://luminisce.com

Luminisce Skin Clinic: ThermiTight Review & Results

When I hit 30, I started to see signs of aging which I know are normal like tired looking eyes, sagging or baggy skin especially in my lower face like I have loose skin, and fine lines and wrinkles.

Even for someone like myself who works out regularly and try to eat healthy, these visible signs of aging are inevitable. We can’t really exercise our skin and make them tighter. I am very happy with the benefits of exercise but when I lost fat in my face, my skin started to sag. Unlike muscles that we can exercise, it would be difficult if not impossible to work out the largest organ in our body – our skin.

For the past few months, I thought I looked tired even though I was not. I wanted my appearance to match the way I feel – young, healthy, and fit. Sometimes I think my sagging skin, cheeks and nasolabial area draw a frown on my face. It is as if loose skin drags the corners of my mouth downwards, making an involuntary frown.

Unlike my friends I am poor at makeup skills and being a mom, don’t really have time to learn and contour, etc. every time I go out. Still I want to look healthy, active, and happy especially for my 6 year old son. My dermatologist, Dra. Kaycee Reyes of Luminisce Skin Clinic introduced me to ThermiTight which is a single treatment/procedure that produce long term results.

WATCH How ThermiTight works:

During my consult, Dra. Kaycee Reyes explained how ThermiTight is a non-surgical and minimally invasive procedure that is best for patients like me who want long term results but not go under the knife. It is a 100% pain-free procedure without down time meaning you can resume your daily activities right after (except heavy exercise of course).

I am a regular patient at Luminisce and remember how Dra. Kaycee Reyes trained with renowned Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Brian Kinney for this procedure. Note that not all doctors can acquire and perform a ThermiTight procedure, they need to be trained and licensed by Thermi – the company who created the ThermiRF machine which is used for the procedure.

My ThermiTight Experience

The day finally came when I will undergo ThermiTight. We agreed to start early at 9AM since the line-up of patient procedures, non-surgical and surgical were quiet long at Luminisce. The nurses took my Before photos first, I came without anything on my face which was a good idea.

Next step was having my face sterilized with Iodine solution up to the chest area. This is to prevent any form of infection. Even if ThermiTight isn’t surgical, the procedure was done in Luminisce’s new Operating Room. It looked serious and nurses plus Doc Kaycee are very strict about sterilization which made me feel very safe.

ThermiTight Procedure

When I was finally ready, Doc Kaycee came in and administered local anesthecia. I am not afraid of injections and for me, it felt like any ordinary vaccination. I appreciated how Doc Kaycee was very friendly and compassionate throughout the ThermiTight procedure. She explained every step and updated me on where we are with the procedure, if she was inserting a tiny probe, removing it, finishing or starting on an area. The only thing I felt during the procedure was some pressure on my face as the tiny probe moved around under my skin. At first I was afraid it would hurt because I read on another blog, done in another clinic – how it hurt BUT thankfully, that didn’t happen to me. In fact, I was smiling throughout the procedure sometimes I get so relaxed I almost fall asleep but I am embarrassed to sleep while the hardworking doctor performs ThermiTight.

The procedure itself took just an hour, I was asked to sit-up a few minutes thereafter and transfer to another room for endermology. It’s like a massage for your face to reduce swelling which was very relaxing. Then, the nurse gave me a head dress or head bandage which will help reduce and relieve any form of swelling.

I wore the head bandage 24/7 for 2 weeks because I want to get the best results. Other patients only wear it at night which is also okay.

Post-Thermitight

Swelling from thermitight lasts for 2 weeks and results will start to show on the 4th week. When I arrived home, my face was swollen but after 4 hours the swelling was greatly reduced. I drank lots of water like Dra. Kaycee advised and it did really help.

I was prescribed pain medicine in case I feel pain but I didn’t really feel anything. I just relaxed and worked as usual for those 2 weeks.

ThermiTight Results: Before & After Photos

If you ask me if I will undergo ThermiTight again, I will give you a BIG yes! The photos don’t do enough justice, I hope I can really share how I feel through writing but 3 weeks after ThermiTight – It’s like I went back in time and met my face 10-15 years ago. My husband says I look like her daughter nowadays!

I can confidently and honestly say that my skin and face look significantly refreshed, my tired look has gone, and the lines that my younger sister used to point out (under my eyes, mid-face, lower face) have disappeared. I don’t see any signs of my sagging skin and everything just feels — tight and toned.

It’s amazing how ThermiTight can give all these results in just an hour and I don’t need to go back to any more sessions. It’s a one-time thing whose results would probably stay for 3-5 years or, as the normal ageing occurs.

BEFORE Thermitight selfie with my son (1 month ago):

I was a happy mommy but now, I am even happier because I feel like I have taken care of myself and it shows. I would let these before & after photos speak for themselves.

After ThermiTight selfie with my son (taken yesterday, same camera phone):

After ThermiTight, I feel more confident letting my hair down. Before, I like putting my hair up to avoid framing my face but now, my confidence has improved and I am comfortable with anything at all :)

I feel young and look forward to more years and memorable, happy moments with my son

Getting ThermiTight at Luminisce Skin Clinic was definitely a right decision for me, I will do it again if I have to. The technology is really innovative, non-invasive, and absolutely pain free. I have recommended it to fellow moms to do it for no one else but for themselves to look & feel great inside and out.

I only had my lower face done and if budget permits, I would consider getting my entire face done. Cost of thermitight varies per patient and the degree of ageing or skin damage. Do send an inquiry to Luminisce on Facebook for more information and to schedule a consult with Dra. Kaycee Reyes :)

ThermaLift at Luminisce Skin Clinic BGC

We are now in the 4th month of our Mommy Makeover series, since starting last March – I’ve lost noticeable amount of weight, got rid of my belly, and most of all, look & feel better!

Reason for getting a Thermalift

I am naturally born with chubby cheeks, and now that I have lost weight in other areas of the body – I feel like I can use a little help from science when it comes to stubborn facial fat. It’s not only my cheeks but my double chin – or maybe what’s left of my double chin after switching to a healthy lifestyle and losing weight, read: sagging skin.

ThermaLift by Luminisce Skin Clinic at Bonifacio Global City (BGC)

Last April, I went to Dra. Kaycee Reyes’ clinic at Luminisce BGC to get a ThermaLift. I’ve been reading about the technology and watched it hailed on TV shows like Oprah as the “lunch time face lift”.

From my understanding, ThermaLift can destroy fat cells, rejuvenate collagen, and tighten the skin. This gives patients a youthful appearance. I’m already 30 and looking back at my photos, I can see my brows, cheeks, and eyes starting to sag. This is also a result of stress, bad eating habits (sugar), and not getting enough exercise.

On the other hand, I also think that my weight loss is a factor in the loss of facial volume. The benefits of Thermalift match my reasons for getting it done.

Procedure: ThermaLift is Non-Invasive

The treatment lasts from 40mins to 1 hour. It does not need topical anesthetics. First, your skin will be marked with a grid.

Then, the doctor will perform the laser treatment. No needles, knives, or anything. It is best if you keep calm and relaxed. Of course, I also got nervous and anticipated all kinds of things but the ThermaLift was performed by a real doctor, Dra. Kaycee Reyes and at least two nurses were also in the room to assist.

Pain

The feeling is like a combination of very mild heat and electric current. Patients are advised to take mefenamic acid 500mg 30 minutes before thermalift. There is some discomfort but nothing unbearable in the name of beauty. Dr. Kaycee Reyes asked me frequently if I’m still comfortable or not. You will have the option to increase/decrease the level of the machine. Of course, if you can get it to the optimum level then you will see better results.

Post-treatment

The face will feel very tight and I was very happy about this. You can see immediate results but Thermalift continues to work and provide gradual results from 2 to 6 months. This motivated me to have a healthy diet and workout regularly.

Update February 2016: This is me now and I can say I have successfully maintained the results of Thermalift :)

In my view, these treatments are a fast track to improving ourselves but it’s up to patients to maintain the results and keep them.

Thermalift Price

I’d love to post and share with you the cost of ThermaLift but it really depends on your problem area. You can get a quick and fast response or estimated cost from Luminisce Skin Clinic on Facebook . They respond very fast!

I hope this Thermalift review helps you decide on the right procedure for you :)

Luminisce Skin Clinic: Anti-Acne Skincare Regimen

Until last month, I stopped using my dermatologist prescribed soap, toners, and creams. Skincare is easiest to forget when you’re in mommy mode and are focused on “more important” things. My skin is acne-prone, so when there’s stress or that time of the month – you bet I’d have a breakout.

Luminisce skincare

Fast forward to today, I am now using a new set of skincare products recommended by my new dermatologist.

– AHA Liquid soap

– AHA toner

– o.1% Adapelene gel

– SPF 50 sunblock

My old anti-acne regimen from another doctor consisted of 6 products and I’m happy to trim it down to four. The new regimen focuses on having AHA or alpha hydroxy acid which improves my skin’s ability to shed dead skin cells, preventing pores to be clogged.

I’m not used to liquid soaps and I fear they are wasteful but my doctor said to use only a small amount, same for all the products I was prescribed. The liquid AHA soap leaves my skin soft & still moisturized after cleansing.

Adapelene gel is available in Mercury Drug, a little pricey but you only use 3 dots on your entire face every night. The gel stops breakouts from forming, like an anti-acne skin shield while you sleep. When pimples do develop, the gel heals it faster. One time I could feel a small bump forming near my nose, when I used Adapalene gel at night – it was gone in the morning.

SPF 50 – use this throughout the day only, every 4 hours. Note if you are already 30 like me, sunblock is your friend to avoid wrinkles and skin sagging. I put this on my face (check this post), for my neck I use regular sunblock like Nivea.

I bought these products last month at Luminisce Skin Clinic, as prescribed by Dra. Kaycee Reyes. Had to wait a few weeks to try their effectiveness before sharing it with everyone. What is your skincare regimen?

At the moment, I am trying anti-aging products on top of these – also prescribed by Dra. Reyes.

Luminisce Skin Clinic: Radiance Lift

The clinic I went to calls it Radiance Lift but the procedure is more commonly known as radio frequency (RF).

I first tried having RF done on my face in 2013 (P5,000), I was happy with the results: slimmer and firmer appearance of my face. BUT everyone knows that for the effects to last, you have to put in the work of exercise and eating healthy. Otherwise, facial fat, bloated-ness and skin sagginess will just return. It was also recommended for me to come back to the clinic every 6 months to maintain the results. I didn’t and so I am back to square one, this time I am trying a clinic in Bonifacio Global City called Luminisce. My husband had his warts removed here so the doctor came in recommended.

Radiance lift uses the Pollogen machine. If I am not mistaken this is a newer technology than what was used on me 2 years ago (different clinic).  Unlike my first RF experience, Radiance Lift offered more bang for the buck so to speak and included:

1. Facial cleaning – no extraction

2. Tripolar RF procedure – painless

3. Hydrating masque – gave me a “Korean glow” after

4. Sodium bicarbonate microdermabrasion – manageable discomfort

I don’t want to keep on comparing but in the old clinic I go to, I would just get number 2 for a similar price.

The Pollogen machine/Radiance Lift as it is more advanced have instant visible results. My skin was glowing from the microdermabrasion, appeared and felt more firm right after the procedure. I like pointing my lips left and right just to feel the tightness.

Tip: My skin is sensitive/acne prone and after the procedure had some slight red areas on them. I used the tinted sunblock I wrote about here right after my Radiance Lift and I was good to go.

Here’s my photo just after the Radiance Lift and a change of clothes (happy anniversary to me and my husband)

http://40.media.tumblr.com/98c4a7a56bbc5d494ac7537c8f929798/tumblr_nlpigmtAPN1qzwdx9o1_500.jpg

Since I started working out again and eating healthy, I hope to maintain the results with good habits. Other patients who want better outcomes will get Radiance Lift every two weeks. Not bad especially with the included microdermabrasion and it can count as your regular facial routine.

Note if you want to have a slimmer face, consider dropping sugar from your diet, drinking lots of water, and keeping active :)

Luminisce Sunblock Review

I used to wear sunblock everyday until I stopped seeing my dermatologist in lieu of mommy duties. If you’re a mom like me and dropped the “beauty” ball sometime ago, you are not alone.

Luminisce Sunblock

2015 is the year I promised to take care of my health & wellbeing. Applying sunblock daily is a tiny step but it’s a start! My husband recently had his warts removed at Luminisce Global City clinic and I found this sunblock at home.

My old sunblock from Caraderme in Makati was in clear gel form. This one I realize is tinted, here’s hoping it is friends with my sensitive, now super clogged skin.

Read: This is not a sponsored post.

The Luminisce sunblock is surprisingly light and with very good “spreadability”.  I read though we shouldn’t be cheap with sunblock so I applied more than 1 layer.

Upon application, I noticed how it evened the appearance of my skin tone – like wearing a light foundation. I’m happy with the unexpected nice effect but my fingers are still crossed it won’t clog my skin.

Post gardening: I washed my face with water but the product remains which is a good thing. Should I reapply? I am not sure but my skin still benefits from the matte-powdered look from this sunblock even after washing. I think I’d reapply after lunch before attending my 4 year old’s moving up ceremony ⛅️

I will update this post with observations on whether or not the sunblock caused anything undesirable, like more breakouts (hope not!). I might visit the Luminisce clinic next week to see a dermatologist and finally deal with my clogged pores.
