Now that’s a whole lot of reasons to come and experience Christmas at Resorts World Manila. I suggest coming on weekends this December when you can expect activities at the Newport Mall Activity Area. The entire Resorts World looks so magical this year.

When you get tired of all the walking and malling, my personal tip is to drop by Maxim’s Cafe to relax and recoup your energy. They also have cute Christmas hampers you can treat yourself with or to give to family and friends.

Have a spectacular Christmas everybody! :)

SM City Trece Martires Experience

Here in Cavite, we are always talking about new malls and establishments to open in our province. Finally, the newest SM supermall everyone was excited about is now open – SM City Trece Martires! Talks about this mall started last year and became louder as the mall opening neared.

When we go to the “bayan” or market of Trece Martires, we always hear vendors, jeepney drivers, and locals speculate about the SM that will soon open. It was the same in our house, so when we heard that the mall opened – my husband and I beat everyone to going first!

From SM Bacoor, we rode the bus going to Trece Martires. The travel to this simple town is always very relaxing, you will encounter lots of greenery and even rivers below several bridges. SM City Trece Martires is nearest neighboring areas such as Ternate, Indang, Amadeo, Maragondon, Magallanes, Naic, General Trias, and Tanza.

We like dating at SM supermalls and this one was extra special because everything in SM City Trece Martires is spanking new. It is unlike other SM lifestyle malls in Cavite (SM Bacoor, Dasmarinas, Rosario) because of its more modern look and feel. SM City Trece Martires makes us people from the province of Cavite feel like we are in Metro Manila.

I particularly enjoyed browsing Surplus for affordable fashion. The newest store in Trece Martires is also edgy with a new and fun atmosphere for bargain hunters like me. Surplus is located at Upper Ground floor of SM City Trece Martires.

For my husband, he enjoyed what else but the gadgets and the freshly opened SM Cyberzone. It looks so close to the Cyberzone at SM Mall of Asia. Even when I am not a fan of too many gadgets, I enjoyed the bright and techie atmosphere in this place.

SM City Trece Martires is a 3-storey complete lifestyle malls that house big name brands, restaurants, and other shops. Of course, there is the newest SM Cinema Trece Martires.

We watched Captain America: Civil War in one of the 4 fully digitized cinemas. My husband and I really enjoyed the look of this cinema, from Snack Time, ticketing booths, comfort rooms – everything looks so fresh and updated.

It all added to our amazing cinema experience, and we didn’t have to leave Cavite!

Before we left, we tried one food kiosk (perhaps one of the most affordable) – Bibingkinitan. It capped off our simple, exciting, and experiential date and visit to the new SM City Trece Martires.

Apart from the mall itself, I also like the unique location of this mall which is within what we call “bayan”. When you step outside, you can also enjoy the local marketplace for a complete Trece Martires experience. Everything you will need is in this place!

SM City Trece Martires is along Governor’s Drive and Capitol Road. We hope to come back very soon with our entire family! Someday, we hope that our own SM Bacoor will also get an upgrade and extension :)

Dewi Sri Farm Kids Day Tour

For families who want to relive and enjoy the provincial, simple, and farming life – Dewi Sri Farm is a top choice and destination in Victoria, Laguna. Dewi Sri is a true working farm in the Philippines with real productive animals, trees, and vegetation that live in synergy.

WATCH: Dewi Sri Farm Experience

Location

On a Friday, I took my son Ashton and Ate Musay (who recently celebrated her birthday) to Dewi Sri Farm. We only availed of the day tour due to the farm’s proximity via SLEX. From Bacoor, Cavite we took Daang Hari road, SLEX, and Calamba exit to the town of Victoria, Laguna.

It helped that we started our drive at 7.30AM and we arrived at the farm around 9AM, stops included. We enjoyed the travel since we passed by Pansol where there are plenty of mini resorts and salbabidas for sale – we instantly felt the summer & adventure vibe.

Dewi Sri Farm – Things to Do

When we arrived at Dewi Sri Farm, I was surprised at how it actually was a resort. I appreciated the organized layout of the place, the cleanliness, and the really relaxing atmosphere.

Ashton and I have been to other farm attractions which were also nice but Dewi Sri combined farming with comfortable resort-type areas where we can relax, chill, and eat comfortably. Facilities were all clean and attended, it makes you want to stay for more than just a day.

Rabbit Feeding

Little rabbits were at the entrance of the farm and instantly attracted Ashton. There was a ready basket of greens and rabbit food on the sides for kids to offer the bunnies. No additional fees for feeding the animals, no time limit, just Ashton with other kids and the bunnies.

The rabbit area is just beside the pool pavilion, kids can visit the rabbits anytime they like i.e. when the adults are still enjoying their snacks. This helped occupy the kids and parents to relax more.

Free Range Poultry: Chickens, Peacock, Ducks, etc.

Kids will be amazed to see chickens, peacocks, ducks, and geese freely running around in their midst at the Dewi Sri Farm’s free range poultry area. They will also be given pellets that the animals really love that they will come rushing to the kids. It can get overwhelming if your child is not used to seeing animals up close so do stay by their side.

This feeding activity including the pellets are also free.

Elaine, the tour guide picks up a chicken for the kids to feel and explains how the chickens live a happy life at the farm.

Goat Feeding

Unlike other farms or zoo, the animals at Dewi Sri Farm are notably happier and are living in comfortable spacious areas. Their food are fresh greens picked at the same farm – just like these happy healthy goats that Ashton got to feed.

Small details like tied up grass being readily available for the kids make this farm experience very smooth and comfortable. Parents don’t need to fickle and just enjoy the sight of their happy kids learning.

Raft Ride

This is the ultimate bukid experience that even I have not tried – riding a raft above the fish pond, by the pilapil and among the rice field. Because Ashton is very happy and relaxed in the previous activities, I was surprised he readily jumped onto the raft with other kids to experience this ride. This tour is one of the most stress-free I ever had, if you have a 5 year old I am sure you know what I mean!

With other kid visitors, my son pulled onto the rope to cross to the other side and back. The ride is safe and the water is just 3ft plus a resident farmer guides everyone across. This ride like everything else is free.

Vegetable & Fruit Juicing 101

When we went, Breville was promoting their juicers and offered free lessons on what juicing is all about. Juicing vegetables and fruits allows people (especially those not used to eating healthy) to get nutrients inside their body by drinking juice. It is similar to blending but without the pulp or fiber.

I was able to try one of their juicers with Ashton, it was so tempting to grab one machine (Php 9,000 up). The kids drank many of the healthy concoctions and other visiting adults also grabbed the chance to up their nutrient intake with all the juice samples.

Now this Breville juicer is on my wish list, I prefer blending but have to admit that it is challenging to ingest pulpy vegetables. Sometimes, I resort to freezing them before blending which may damage the nutrients vs. drinking them raw.

Swimming at Dewi Sri Farm

There are 2 interconnected pools at the farm, one for kids and the other for adults. My 5 year old enjoyed the safe 3 ft. pool as well as the inviting water temperature (not cold, not hot but just right). Ashton learned how to use arm floaters here at the farm, I guess all the positive activities prior to swimming increased his confidence.

I also enjoyed swimming with fellow moms who were also with their kids. I wish I can stay longer at the deeper pool but for Ashton’s safety I simply enjoyed waddling at 3ft.

Fish feeding

After swimming, the kids enjoyed feeding golden or red tilapia at the fish pond. The feeds were free for all and the fishes jump towards the food. This was the perfect activity to calm and relax the kids down – just enough for them to focus on the next activity.

Hydroponics and Vegetable Picking

Dewi Sri Farm has a vast hydroponics farm where they plant greens like spinach. A resident farmer taught the kids what hydroponics is (growing plants in water) and how to harvest them properly. All the kids were all ears and were genuinely interested in this farming technique.

I also setup a small hydroponics in our backyard farm and learned how to improve it by listening to the stories from Dewi Sri Farm.

The best part of this activity was letting the kids pick as many spinach as they could. These were also given to us to take home. Hooray!

Then, the kids were also taught how to plant seedlings into hydroponics. The medium they are using are just cotton. I hope to involve Ashton in our own hydroponics setup at home soon.

Dewi Sri Farm Prices & Rates

The Dewi Sri Farm day tour costs P480 per person, this already includes 2 snacks and 1 lunch. I find this very reasonable especially with all the things we got to try and learn. Note that what the kids can enjoy, the adults can too.

This is our morning snack when we arrived

Lunch was kid and adult friendly, and even included dessert (not in photo, see video)

Our afternoon snack before going home

If you like you can bring your own snacks (limited to small packs of chips or biscuits) just in case.

Dewi Sri Farm is a sulit getaway that is very accessible and just near Metro Manila. There are not so many places like this that offer resort comfort with a true working farm experience. Note that before going to Dewi Sri Farm, you must make reservations and book. It’s very easy, just text or call the following numbers: (049) 5762651 or 0917 524 5155 .

Cafe Enye Spanish Restaurant

A few days before the Valentine’s rush, my husband invited me for a date in Cafe Enye – a Spanish restaurant in Eastwood City.

WATCH: Cafe Enye Date Experience

The restaurant’s location is an interesting spot in Eastwood City. It is beside The Excelsior Eastwood and another old European style building. The street feels like being in a different country and helped set the mood for our romantic date.

Yellow dim lights, old Spanish style furniture, hanging photo frames, and Cafe Enye’s overall interior design create a cozy, relaxing, and romantic first impression. It was certainly unlike any mainstream restaurants that we go to. The ambiance is executed so well but at the same time, allows diners to interpret the space on a personal level – a fine Spanish restaurant to hold business meetings, a relaxing and quiet spot to enjoy afternoon drinks with friends, or like us, a romantic secret hideaway for couples.

Al fresco seating just in front of the iconic Cafe Enye red door is also available. In essence, there is a place for everyone – including a more private function room for groups.

For the two us, we chose this attractive spot just beside the coffee bar. It had a nice view of the barista making cups of coffee and people walking in and out of Cafe Enye’s red door.

Cafe Enye Food Review

Each dish arrived picture-perfect on our table. The food presentation is perfect for dating couples who want a romantic, picturesque dining experience. Food styling is a marriage of rustic and home-made elements but retains the functionality of food service.

Cafe Enye Menu & Prices

The following are the dishes we ordered together with the prices:

Bacalao Mantecado P245
Bacalao is a type of fish, thickened in cream and mashed potatoes. Topped with salted egg and crispy garlic.

Callos Buns P135 for 3 pcs
Freshly made soft buns filled with slow cooked callos

Callos ala Casa P440
Six hour slow-cooked stewed tripes

Steak Sofrito P575
Grilled Tenderloin Beef with Chimichurri and Sofrito Butter

Lechon Carbonara P250

Each dish was a different experience, I cannot emphasize enough how unique the quality and taste of Cafe Enye dishes are. Perhaps the closest way to describe the food quality, presentation, and taste is that it matches and perhaps even exceeds hotel restaurant standards.

If you have eaten in many restaurants, it is easy to compare and conclude that Cafe Enye is using quality ingredients and whoever is in charge of preparing the food knows how to use natural herbs & spices to bring out the flavors of the dish (and not heavily rely on seasonings which I feel is becoming a problem in mainstream restaurants and food courts).

I also appreciated how our dishes were generously made with olive oil aka the “healthy oil”, quality mushrooms that add chewy texture and variety, and pitted olives that lends natural hint of saltiness to our meals.

Of the dishes we ordered, I liked the comforting Lechon Carbonara the best – followed by the Pork Buns. We had our date in the afternoon and this must be the reason why I leaned towards merienda items most. Cafe Enye’s Lechon Carbonara is so tasty and unlike the usual, Cafe Enye’s version is not swimming in oil or creamy and very rich sauce. They prepare it the traditional Spanish way with egg yolk on top of the warm pasta. You must mix the yolk in and then enjoy this wonderful, comforting meal.

Cafe Enye’s Callos Buns have an enjoyable Spanish, Filipino, and Chinese flair. It is served warm in three’s and has the same Cafe Enye quality and surprising competitive price. It will remind you of the famous Pork Buns but this tastes better and without the long lines ;)

It was difficult which to eat first – my Lechon Carbonara or the pork bun. SO I ate them together and had a grand degustation experience. Before I forget, I also ordered the Cafe Americano to enjoy my meal with:

Have you tried enjoying Carbonara and coffee together? It’s one of my foodie quirks that some people find weird, until they try it.

Cafe Enye Desserts

Churros with Dulce de Leche Cream P170

Creme Catalan P185

My husband and I shared these desserts, of the two I liked the Churros the most. It is also my mother’s favorite and that’s another thing about Cafe Enye – it will remind you of your grandmother, mother, and other relatives and family legacy in one way or another.

I found the Churros very entertaining and interactive to eat with two choices of dipping sauce that are actually best together i.e. dip the churros in the dulce de leche cream followed by the chocolate sauce. I made sure that we leave some Churros to take away for my mom – she did enjoy eating her favorite.

What do you think? Happy dating Mommy & Daddy!

Disney Christmas Experience at SM North

Mickey Mouse & Donald Duck at SM North, the Block Atrium

Is going to Disneyland and seeing Mickey Mouse and his friends on your child’s Christmas wishlist? SM North is giving everyone a chance to enjoy the Disney Christmas Experience for FREE. Here is a walk through of SM North’s Disney Village, following the theme “A Season of Magic”. This is located inside the Block Atrium.

The village is expected to thrill kids from all walks of life and bring out the child in every adult. I was not with my son when I chanced upon SM North, but still could not resist having “selfies” inside the Disney Village. It reminds me of me and my son’s hobby of watching Mickey Mouse clubhouse every morning.

The grand Christmas centerpiece recreates the homes of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck, and Pluto.

Find this Santa Mailbox at Mickey’s house, as well as his shiny Mickey Mouse car!

Minnie’s house is the one with a heart-shaped sign and white picket fence, your little girls would love it here. Did you know it’s Mickey & Minnie’s birthday on November 18?

Goofy’s diner also have make-believe diner food, and look who’s bike is parked at Goofy’s Diner?

If you’re lucky, you might find Mickey Mouse & Donald Duck inside the Disney Village. I took a video for my son but I’m sure your child would love to watch this too:

Outside the Disney Village is the Disney Gift Shop. I took photos of available Disney merchandise featuring Disney characters from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse to hit Disney movies like Frozen.

Mickey Mouse & Minnie Mouse plush toys

Disney apparel for kids

Disney rubber shoes

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Toys

Disney Design it Yourself figures

Mini Figure World

Disney surprise movies

Mickey & Minnie Mouse school bags

Disney Activity Books

The items above have friendly prices and I’m sure I can afford to buy Ashton at least one item as a souvenir when we visit the Disney Village. SM North is not so hard to go to whether you’re from the south (like us), thanks to MRT. I am planning to go back with my son because not all SM Supermalls have Disney-themed centerpieces.  So far, I’ve checked both SM Bacoor and SM Mall of Asia – both don’t have Disney Christmas themes.

How about at the SM near you? Please let me know via comments, we are looking for the “Lego Christmas Adventure” theme also and wonder where it is located.

*I am checking the SM Official Christmas microsite every now and then for FREE events & activities, and also the SM Supermalls FB page.
