Summer-Ready Skin Tips & Treatments That Work

Summer-ready skin takes time to achieve, especially if you’re prone to body acne. These tips are based on my experience dealing with occasional break outs on my face and I do get back acne / backne too. While these things should not keep anyone from enjoying their outings and wearing their favorite swimsuit, skin conditions can make anyone feel self-conscious and less confident.

Spot all the sunblock lotion! :D It’s better to be crazy applying sunblock or pay the price with damaged skin later

Here are some of my tried and tested tips you can try at home including some skincare procedures you can try to achieve a more flawless skin in time for summer.

At Home Solutions for Summer-Ready Skin:

1. Exfoliate – you read this tip all the time but here are details that will help. Exfoliate your face and body 2-3x a week to remove dead skin cells. I find that unlike others, my skin really needs manual exfoliation or the build up of dead skin cells will clog my pores and give me acne.

I use an organic scrub of coffee grounds and sea salt, with virgin coconut oil.

2. Moisturize – dry skin makes it easy for pimple-causing bacteria to enter your skin. Find a good face moisturizer (I use Sensilia Moisturizing Cream on my face, I got it from Luminisce Skin Clinic) and for the body, use a light weight body lotion (I use Aveeno right now).

3. Spot treat with acne gel – If you have spots on your body like chest, arms, and back, try applying a topical anti-acne gel. I currently use  Adapelene Gel and apply it before putting on body lotion.

Skincare Procedures / Treatments for Summer-Ready Skin

If your skin condition is severe such as persistent body acne on your chest, back, and arms that don’ improve even after regular exfoliation, spot treatment, and moisturization, then maybe it’s time to consult the professionals. Here are skin treatments I tried that reveal clearer, smoother skin.

1. Chemical body peel – I tried this several years ago and it really works. Face and body peels instantly reveal younger and healthier looking skin after say 2-4 weeks. It also helps to clear out acne and you can undergo this treatment even if you have active pimples.

Recently, I consulted a dermatologist at Luminisce Skin Clinic (Podium Branch) and it was recommended that I try their body peel while I can’t remember the name, I know it is a combination of peeling solutions that are safe and the downtime is around 2 weeks.

Be sure to get a peel at least 1-2 months before you go to the beach to avoid pigmentation when super new skin is exposed to the sun.

2. Starwalker Angel White Laser – if your problem is acne scars and blemishes, this is an instant solution that you can find at Luminisce Skin Clinic. My first experience with this treatment is with my underarms then it was recommended that I try it for my back which had pigmentation and acne marks. I was very happy with just 1 session, it lightened acne marks and evened out my skin tone. I can only imagine how amazing it is if you get 2-3 sessions since the laser shatters all types of pigmentation on any part of the body.

3.  Full Radiance and Acne Clear Laser – summer means a lot of sweating and potential breakouts. Just last month, I tried this facial which is safe even if you’re going to the beach! This facial will rescue you from acne armageddon whether it’s on your face, chest, back, or arms. I had my face undergo the Full Radiance facial at Luminisce and then their Acne Clear Laser technology too.

The Full Radiance facial gently exfoliates to remove dead skin cells, impurities and to help younger skin to surface. The Acne Clear Laser kills acne causing bacteria painlessly. According to the Luminisce website, the Acne Clear Laser normalizes the blood vessels surrounding the wound healing process to lessen the inflammation and hasten skin healing. In a few sessions, you can notice the difference with smoother, even-toned skin. This is the safest yet most effective solution to acne inflammation, redness, and flushing!

You can get this treatment even just a few days before your summer outing.

Summer Skin Care Regimen

Now that you can enjoy the beach in full confidence, thanks to your flawless skin – it’s important to ensure that your skin stays healthy and smooth all throughout the season.

This is my current skincare regimen. All of them are very mild yet effective. I’m not keen on trying different products so I like to follow what the dermatologist recommends. These are all from Luminisce Skin Clinic. I like the moisturizer the most, as mentioned above.

One item in my regimen that stays forever is the Luminisce Sunblock which I’m using for at least 3 years now. It’s so nice to use in beach trips because it’s like a BB cream (without clogging) and evens out my skin tone without having to wear makeup. Of course, you have to wear your sunglasses to avoid eye wrinkles during the summer time.

Luminisce Skin Clinic is my current choice for a friendly skin laser clinic that has the latest technology. I also like Dra. Kaycee Reyes’ holistic approach that yield natural-looking results. The nurses and staff are very caring and professional too. They have two branches one in BGC and another at the newly opened The Podium in Ortigas. I go to their BGC clinic which is nearer for me. You can contact them through Facebook or their website

Cetaphil Turns 70 – How To Moisturize Skin Properly

Cetaphil, the brand recommended by dermatologists is celebrating its 70th anniversary. Nowadays, reaching 70 years in the health & beauty industry is an extraordinary milestone.

If you are one of the many users of Cetaphil, are you sure you’re using it the right way? I’m talking about the Cetaphil moisturizers in particular.

Cetaphil Face & Body Moisturizing Lotion

Cetaphil has come a long way from just producing its famous and gentler than water facial wash. Nowadays, the brand has a diverse line for different skin types and ages. Cetaphil is available in more than 70 countries worldwide and offers a wide range of everyday products from, cleansers, moisturizers, sun protection to baby products and solutions for sensitive skin conditions such as acne, eczema and rosacea.

Cetaphil Face & Body Moisturizing Lotion, 237ml  P890

For this post, I want to offer information on how I use the Cetaphil Face & Body Moisturizer. Here’s what I like about this product:

– 2 in 1 product that can be used for the face and body
– comes in big packaging/tub with pump nozzle
– fragrance free which makes it suitable for daily use even for sensitive skin
– light weight
– easily absorbed by the skin
– prevents spots/pimples on the face and body

Do you know why using a good moisturizer stops pimples and help cure acne? Based on my experience – when you’re skin is dry, it produces more sebum or oil. The oilier your skin is whether your face or body, the easier dirt sticks to it and cause clogged pores. Dry skin also makes it easier for bacteria to enter the skin causing infections and skin irritation like pimples.

The Proper Way to Moisturize using Cetaphil Face + Body Moisturizer

Moisturizers “seal” moisture on your skin. This means there should be moisture to begin with. I’ve started the habit of moisturizing as quickly as I can right after stepping out of the shower. Since my Cetaphil moisturizer of choice is for both face & body, it’s very easy and time efficient to use.

The proper way to moisturize is right after cleansing your skin while your skin is still hydrated and supple from washing or cleansing.

Ever since I started this habit of using Cetaphil moisturizer right after bathing, I’ve enjoyed pimple and spot free face, chest, arms, and back. Of course, you must also exfoliate thrice a week – something I always fail to do but always try hard to follow!   You can bring a small version of this Cetaphil moisturizer and re-apply whenever your skin starts to feel dry i.e. when staying in air conditioned places.

Keeping your skin moisturized is also keeping your skin young and healthy for longer. “With its gentle and clinically proven formulas, Cetaphil reinforces and protects the structure of the skin – even in people with the most sensitive and delicate skin” explained Dr Eszter Baltas, dermatologist who contributed to developing Cetaphil products.

Where to Buy Cetaphil in the Philippines

Cetaphil Cleansers

The easiest way to buy Cetaphil in the Philippines is at Watsons stores. I buy mine from Watsons in SM supermalls. In the past, I remember having to ask relatives abroad to buy Cetaphil for me but now this product and its variants are available in the Philippines.

Only Buy the Original Cetaphil Products

Beware of fake Cetaphil, I’ve read about it on Facebook. If you must buy online, cross check with Cetaphil’s website or send a message to Cetaphil’s Facebook Page.

Here is a complete list of where to buy original Cetaphil products.

Luminisce Skin Clinic: Anti-Acne Skincare Regimen

Until last month, I stopped using my dermatologist prescribed soap, toners, and creams. Skincare is easiest to forget when you’re in mommy mode and are focused on “more important” things. My skin is acne-prone, so when there’s stress or that time of the month – you bet I’d have a breakout.

Luminisce skincare

Fast forward to today, I am now using a new set of skincare products recommended by my new dermatologist.

– AHA Liquid soap

– AHA toner

– o.1% Adapelene gel

– SPF 50 sunblock

My old anti-acne regimen from another doctor consisted of 6 products and I’m happy to trim it down to four. The new regimen focuses on having AHA or alpha hydroxy acid which improves my skin’s ability to shed dead skin cells, preventing pores to be clogged.

I’m not used to liquid soaps and I fear they are wasteful but my doctor said to use only a small amount, same for all the products I was prescribed. The liquid AHA soap leaves my skin soft & still moisturized after cleansing.

Adapelene gel is available in Mercury Drug, a little pricey but you only use 3 dots on your entire face every night. The gel stops breakouts from forming, like an anti-acne skin shield while you sleep. When pimples do develop, the gel heals it faster. One time I could feel a small bump forming near my nose, when I used Adapalene gel at night – it was gone in the morning.

SPF 50 – use this throughout the day only, every 4 hours. Note if you are already 30 like me, sunblock is your friend to avoid wrinkles and skin sagging. I put this on my face (check this post), for my neck I use regular sunblock like Nivea.

I bought these products last month at Luminisce Skin Clinic, as prescribed by Dra. Kaycee Reyes. Had to wait a few weeks to try their effectiveness before sharing it with everyone. What is your skincare regimen?

At the moment, I am trying anti-aging products on top of these – also prescribed by Dra. Reyes.

Luminisce Sunblock Review

I used to wear sunblock everyday until I stopped seeing my dermatologist in lieu of mommy duties. If you’re a mom like me and dropped the “beauty” ball sometime ago, you are not alone.

Luminisce Sunblock

2015 is the year I promised to take care of my health & wellbeing. Applying sunblock daily is a tiny step but it’s a start! My husband recently had his warts removed at Luminisce Global City clinic and I found this sunblock at home.

My old sunblock from Caraderme in Makati was in clear gel form. This one I realize is tinted, here’s hoping it is friends with my sensitive, now super clogged skin.

Read: This is not a sponsored post.

The Luminisce sunblock is surprisingly light and with very good “spreadability”.  I read though we shouldn’t be cheap with sunblock so I applied more than 1 layer.

Upon application, I noticed how it evened the appearance of my skin tone – like wearing a light foundation. I’m happy with the unexpected nice effect but my fingers are still crossed it won’t clog my skin.

Post gardening: I washed my face with water but the product remains which is a good thing. Should I reapply? I am not sure but my skin still benefits from the matte-powdered look from this sunblock even after washing. I think I’d reapply after lunch before attending my 4 year old’s moving up ceremony ⛅️

I will update this post with observations on whether or not the sunblock caused anything undesirable, like more breakouts (hope not!). I might visit the Luminisce clinic next week to see a dermatologist and finally deal with my clogged pores.
