Make your Summer Fun & Sun-Proof with Watsons | Promos, Freebies and Prizes

Sunblock is not the cheapest beauty product and is often ignored by many of us – until we see the signs of aging caused by sun damage. Every summer we are reminded of the importance to apply sunblock on our face and body. Kids are especially susceptible to sunburn when playing in the sand and swimming for hours. Make your summer fun, safe, and healthy by being equipped with the right summer products.

FREE Floaters when you shop at Watsons

The best time to buy sunblock for your summer outing is before you go! Sunblock lotions are more expensive to buy in resorts compared to stores like Watsons. You’ll be amazed at the top of the line sunblock options that are now available here: Nivea, Vaseline, Banana Boat, Beach Hut, Solstice, Biore, Sunplay, Belo, Neutrogena, Cetaphil, Celeteque, Kojie San, Hawaiian Tropic, Dermplus, Ponds, and Olay, plus when you buy from Watsons like I did – you will get freebies like trendy giant donut floaters!

FREE Nivea floater when you buy P700 worth of Nivea sunblock/products

For our next summer outing, I shopped for sunblock at Watsons. I carefully read the promos and checked out each brand’s promos. Ultimately, I came home with 1 beach ball, 1 donut inflatable floater, and 1 Nivea ring floater – total of 3 freebies that will make our summer more fun.

FREE Donut floater for every P1,400 receipt. I just bought other essentials to reach the amount. These inflatable donut salbabidas can cost up to P1,200 in online stores!

From all the brands that Watsons have in store, I personally use Nivea for me and my son. I’ve been using it for many swimming activities already and I like how it has a “porcelain” effect on our skin. Just reapply every now and then.

Watsons Summer Treat for SM Advantage Card (SMAC) holders

SM Advantage Card Members can also get a chance to explore the wonders of the Philippine islands with getaways for four to Batanes, Boracay, Cebu, Davao, and Palawan. Just buy participating products and for every PHP500 single-receipt purchase, you get 1 e-raffle entry. The promo is from February 23 – April 26, 2017.

Do not lose your e-raffle stub!

Enjoy your summer Mommy and Baby! Please don’t be lazy in applying sunblock, your skin will thank you for it :)

#LoveSnR: DIY Frugal Summer Party

The kids are still on vacation but us moms never seem to get a break, especially from bored kids asking for activities. I have tried numerous arts and crafts, role play, and backyard farming games for my 5 year old. However, the sweltering weather makes it easier for kids to feel agitated and unable to stay put in one place.

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Disney Pool Ring P389.95

The DIY basin (palangana) setup entertains my son for a long time. We do this almost every summer but this year, my son can barely fit inside the palangana. If you are looking for affordable kiddie outdoor swimming pools like me, check out these finds from S&R Membership Shopping:

Disney Arm Band – P74.95
Disney Swim Ring – P69.95
Mares Snorkel – P2,589.95
Disney Pool Ring – P389.95
Disney Family Pool – P1,629.95

If like us you are a family on a budget and skipped on expensive summer out of town trips, why not make your own summer party or activity at home? The best thing about it is that you can be creative with your setup in your garden or garage, re-use old and new summer equipment, and cook/bring your own food plus stay as long as you like!

For safety purposes, you can make your kids wear aqua shoes like these that have rubberized, non-slip soles.

A few months ago, we bought our first outdoor tent and I can say it was worth it. We enjoyed outdoor barbecues with it, stargazing, or playing house.  Having a tent is one way you can get your kids away from their gadgets and online games. Even my sister (in photo) wants to buy one for her own adventures.

Coleman dome adventure tent starts at P1,519.95

There are also portable coolers that can make your DIY party more convenient by keeping your drinks, ice cream, and other chilled food by your side and not in the kitchen.

Summer isn’t complete without barbecues, it’s one activity you can assign to your husband especially if he is using a nice outdoor grill. You can also find a number of them at S&R:

Before we left, we made sure to buy ice cream for everyone at home. It’s our first time to try this imported ice cream brand “Blue Bunny”. We are trying them because they are on sale here at S&R – what a treat. It’s buy 2 for just P629.95.

How is your summer going so far? Remember, summer activities can be done at home with just a little bit of planning and imagination ;)

Munting Buhangin in Nasugbu Batangas – Family Summer Outing

We had our summer outing earlier than usual, I pushed to go to Munting Buhangin resort in Nasugbu Batangas. The beach is clean, affordable, and in late February – the crowd was still thin.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xfa1/v/t1.0-9/10471314_10153207488694276_6495244401712333771_n.jpg?oh=5ee59da1b9ac6f4e661a3c53103dc82b&oe=5586FB87&__gda__=1438000490_666523f122c8fd460c1f281164c06cc3

Entrance fee for the day tour is Php 200 per head, including children. You also have to prepare P500-1,000 for the gazebos you intend to use during your stay. They have overnight options but to save money, we decided otherwise.

You can bring in food without any corkage fees. We brought 2 pcs. of lechon manok and rice for lunch and snacks. My motto was the less we bring, the less hassle and stress we’ll have in cleaning up. At Munting Buhangin, they have a medium sized sari-sari store where you can buy other snacks and an assortment of icecreams like Magnum and Cornetto. They also have a restaurant but dishes range from P400 and up.

The beach is about 2 hours from our place in Cavite but we left at 6AM. It’s better to leave earlier to avoid more vehicles and arrive just after sunrise. We took the Kaybiang Tunnel in Maragondon. Expect to travel across Mt. Palay Palay – it will feel long but the view is worth the effort, not to mention the beach at the end of your trip.

Gas up because you won’t find any gas stations in the mountains, there is one just after Pico de Loro called Mt. Pico gas station.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xfa1/v/t1.0-9/1654326_10153207496089276_7367805862524054974_n.jpg?oh=c4d923951d91ccf6497815714d8b1e6f&oe=5570A62C&__gda__=1438474407_56bbe3102aa7edcda35bc84dcefb2404

Back to the beach, the sand is very fine and I have been in Boracay and the sand is comparable. Water is also clear and clean when we went. There isn’t anything floating even seaweeds cannot be seen – there are plenty of fish you can swim along with and friendly baby crabs on the sand.

I want to point out that come peak season, it really is the people who pollute the beach with trash (especially unsupervised children). Don’t be surprised to see floating trash if there are a lot of people swimming. You can blame them not the resort or the beach itself (Sorry I get carried away).

Since the sand is fine, children are able to play along the shore. Just like my son Ashton who met several new friends of the same age. We let them borrow our plastic pail, scoopers, etc. I did not see any life guard actively supervising so take care of your children and just take turns with your spouse swimming if there’s only the two of you.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xfp1/v/t1.0-9/10998655_10153207495334276_8581170068703202222_n.jpg?oh=dea9162a0de43988040b0946619911ed&oe=55749B93&__gda__=1433554166_1f2379667fd22e873596d434ebaf8310

We brought other relatives including my mom, aunt, and sister who made it easier for me and my husband to sneak some me-time at the beach. We swam from 10AM up until around 3PM. The weather was very nice and my husband even got to fly his kite. So do bring your toys to keep you active during your summer outing. I always bring my goggles and wear my rash guard so I am ready for any activity. Ashton is always ready with his toys too.

Watch out for seafood vendors on boats. They sell anything from tuna, lobsters, squid, and more. The prices are really cheap like a whole tuna for just P300. I advice not to haggle when you know you already have a deal, it’s not easy to fish or even to ride a bangka and sell fresh seafood to tourists. I bought tuna and lobster from this lady.

We will come back when summer is over and I wish to experience an overnight in their nipa hut with a grill outside. Perfect for our endless honeymoon ;)

You can get directions and other details from the resort’s website: http://www.muntingbuhangin.ph/

Kids: Swimwear for your Tweens

It’s raining but doesn’t mean summer is over just yet. Don’t let your kids especially your tweens miss out on the summer fun. Classes resume soon and they need a fun summer activity to relive and daydream about! One of the challenges when it comes to summer and tweens is the choice of swimwear. Your little miss is no longer a toddler, nor a teen – but a tween. I know right. If I had a girl, I don’t like awkward styles but something fun, vibrant, and safe to wear.

Consider these perfect swimwear for your tweens from Orange Juice (I call them OJ). They are the same company who owns Spin! where I got Ashton’s baby rash guard.

Lucky we have these kiddie shops to solve our kiddie fashion 911’s. I remember when I was a “tween”, I was embarrassed to go swimming because I didn’t have proper swim attire. Now, I am sure you had your kiddie summer mishaps as well, and promise you will make it easy-er for your kids this time ;)

Completing the summer get-up are swimwear cover-ups, hip slogan tees, tank tops, shorts, and embellished light dresses. The Orange Juice Summer Collection is available at Orange Juice stores in Alabang Town Center, Shangri-la Plaza Mall, and Power Plant Mall or at Big&Small combination stores in Greenbelt 5 Makati, VMall Greenhills Shopping Center, Glorietta 3 Ayala Center Makati, Fun Ranch Pasig City, SM City Pampanga and KCC Mall General Santos City.
