Pregnancy Don’ts – What to Avoid When You’re Expecting

I was watching late night TV and this documentary amazed me on how many babies are endangered because some moms failed to avoid some food or activities while they were pregnant. Many did not know that there was a fetus inside them and continued with their regular lives. Some did not know what to avoid during pregnancy and how to take care of themselves.

So for our information, here are the major things to avoid when you are pregnant or even think you are pregnant:

1. Alcohol

2. Too much caffeine

3. Over the counter medications, herbal drugs, etc. – always ask for your OB’s go signal before taking any drugs

4. Smoking

5. Hot weather or temperature – don’t soak in hot tubs or hot jacuzzis, drink plenty of water when the weather gets hot and take cover.

It is important for all pregnant women to eat well. Munch on fruits at least 3 servings a day and take prenatal vitamins. Prenatal vitamins are not that expensive, mine is Obimin which costs Php 140++ good for a month. Then there are additions to which that your Obgyne will tell you to take like Calcium, Vitamin C, and Iron.

Dieting while pregnant is not a good idea. Eat healthy food and avoid junk food if you want to maintain your shape after pregnancy.

The documentary I watched last night is heart melting with videos of lots of premature babies, some underweight, and mommies who couldn’t afford to have prenatal check-ups. Every pregnant woman likes and needs to be taken care of and I hope, soon the government will have more programs for mothers and infants.
