Selfie Tips from Bea Alonzo: Beauty in Every Angle

There was a time I hated selfies and even thought ill of people taking & sharing them on social media. Then I realized I was only justifying my laziness to take care of myself and in making an effort to look presentable. This probably meant not being selfie-ready most of the time, thus my hesitation to take a selfie in the first place.

If you’re like me who can use more guidance from celebrity selfie & Instagram-pros, read on Fuji Films Philippines newest celebrity ambassador Bea Alonzo’s tried & tested selfie tips.

Selfie Tips from Bea Alonzo

1. Take care of your health – the One More Chance leading lady, Bea Alonzo tries to stick to her work out especially when she is not busy taping. She avoids sugar except nutritious fruits that also add to that signature “celebrity” glow. Although there are several filters and beauty modes on mobile phone cameras nowadays, nothing beats being beautiful inside and out in reality – with or without filters.

Bring your own baon is also one of Bea’s healthy eating habits, she takes packed meals to the set and practice calorie counting.

2. Find the right angle – even Bea Alonzo has days when she feels fat or bloated, this doesn’t stop her from taking selfies to connect and update her fans. Bea’s tip: hold the camera a little higher (above eye level) to create a slimming effect.

3. Choose a good camera – Bea was inspired by bloggers who post crisp and high resolution photos on Instagram. The trick is using a digital camera with instant sharing capability to “level up” photo quality beyond that of a cellphone camera. This is when Bea researched and decided to buy (note: really buy even before she became an endorser) the Fuji Film X-A2 digital camera. This is her camera of choice and use on her recent trip to New York with boyfriend, Zanjoe.

It has a selfie mode and more importantly, an LCD screen that you can rotate towards you to take perfect selfies all the time. It features a light weight body, photo output gives a perfect skin tone during selfies, it can also connect to a WIFI app to transfer photo to your smartphones for social media posting.

Bea says her favorite camera mode is the “P” or portrait. Using this mode she says she does not even have to bother applying filters to enhance her photos and allow her to share selfies right away on Instagram.

According to the actress “pictures remind me of good memories, so I decided to get a new camera na parang andun din ako (sa picture). Hindi na enough yung camera phone. I am also starting to love my Instax Mini 70, ang saya-saya niya sa parties.”

4. Be positive – Choose to share only happy and beautiful places, moments, and messages on social media. Bea only wants to share these things to her fans who look up to her for inspiration. She’s really the epitome of form & substance, beauty inside & out.

5. Effort – This is an unspoken tip but one I observed looking at Bea Alonzo for several minutes. It was my first time seeing her in person and like every celebrity, I really admire their effort to look their best all the time and from head to toe:

Just for fun, I took a similar selfie just like hers inside the car 😀 Let this serve as a comparison between a Fuji Film X-A2 camera versus a camera phone:

Notice how crisp yet smooth Bea’s selfie is using the Fuji Film X-A2. Selfie using camera phone does appear grainy in comparison.

The Fuji Film X-A2 costs P27,990, I don’t have the budget to get one yet but I believe Bea’s endorsement on how powerful yet easy to carry this camera is. According to her, she isn’t a pro when it comes to using SLRs, she tried using them once but found them very bulky especially for her lifestyle.

Now she is still using her Fuji X-A2 which is more compact but takes SLR-quality photos.
