5 Tips to Keeping Holidays Fun and Healthy

December brings a crazy kind of busy for parents and children alike. At school, home, and work – the holiday season can be both fun and hectic at the same time. Here are some tips to keep the Christmas season fun like it’s meant to be while keeping the whole family healthy.

1. Plan and learn to say no – take a step back and review your family’s commitments, including your children’s upcoming exams and social activities such as reunions or parties. Be realistic about your limitations and take into consideration your family’s need to rest and recharge in between. Only say yes to things you can commit to and really deliver, it will be good for your own productivity, mood, and well-being.

2. Keep your family active – the holidays might be a good break for you and the kids from school and work but sitting all day playing mobile games and scrolling through social media can make you and your family feel sluggish in the end. Take advantage of free Christmas attractions outdoors, take a break from the gadgets, and squeeze in physical activities through outdoor games or even just walking is better than sitting.

3. Protect your kids from infectious diseases with Vitamin C – serving your family nutritious food helps in keeping them fit and healthy but busy work and school schedules, add to that the holiday season, makes it a challenge to ensure everyone’s getting the right dose of vitamins such as Vitamin C. Vitamin C can help protect your child from infectious diseases that are easily transmitted during the holiday – think Christmas parties, gatherings with lots of people, children playing indoors and outdoors, all the traveling, etc.

Pack toys and activity books to keep kids busy when traveling during the holidays and when braving the traffic.

The holidays are the worst time for anyone to get sick and miss all the memorable family moments. I always pack Vitamin C (together with some first aid medicines for fever, etc.) whenever I travel with my son. You can buy them in small bottles for traveling then just get the big ones to use when you stay at home.

4. Keep things simple – Christmas is a great time to be creative and bring out your best decors, outfit, or family recipes. However, it doesn’t hurt to make things simpler. Simple might be even better if it means you get more time with your family especially your children. Remember that the holiday season is not a competition and at the end of it all, it’s your family that matters.

5. Enjoy – Believe it or not, this hectic but wonderful time of the year will end very fast. Christmas will end before you know it and 2018 will begin as swiftly. Family time is precious and Christmas is the best time to invest in memories that you and your child will forever cherish. Don’t forget to pause and make sure that you and your kids are enjoying the holidays in your healthiest shape by boosting your kids’ immunity.

Have a merry and healthy Christmas, Mommy and Baby!
