Ashton is still nursing colds today, it’s been 3 days already but luckily, he is not feverish and is still feeding normally. He hates the nasal aspirator though and cringes at the sight of it, even when his nose is heavily stuffed with gooey stuff.
From my experience, here are the things you need when your baby gets the stuffy nose:
1. Digital thermometer – to check for fever. If temperature is above 38C then I would give him medicine for fever like Dolan. Luckily, Ashton’s temp is always in the normal range.
2. Nasal aspirator – every baby (I think) hates this but you have to get your way to your baby’s nose or he will even have more difficulty breathing. Ashton wails like there is no tomorrow when I use this but I just carry him after as a bonus.
3. A vaporizer or vapor rub – never put vapor rub or any minty stuff on your baby’s skin because some experienced allergies and even burning. We tried to look for a vaporizer which is foil packed and can just be opened so the room will be filled with eucalyptus scent to help unclog the nose. However, this was not available.
The other night, I just let Ashton sniff Vicks vapor rub in a jar from a distance. Last night, since there is still no vaporizer available, we got an Airoma for Ashton (and our home).
We got eucalyptus oil, dropped some in the machine with water and wow, it worked really well. Everyone inside the room felt like we were in a spa and Ashton could benefit from the eucalyptus scent for his cold and stuffed nose.

4. Finally, you need lots of patience because baby will cry in the middle of the night several times because of blocked nostrils 🙂
