Home and Living: Turn Clutter into Trash

I’ve taken to heart all the things I learnt from feng shui experts. One is the need to declutter to let fresh energy flow in. I hate cleaning mountains of clutter that have accumulated in our study, and in my bedroom. It is simply daunting to know where to start. As professional bloggers we have collected so much press kits, some with promotional pens, and promotional mugs. Not to forget piles of PR print outs, CDs, paper bags, and folders.

It came to my mind how much trash everyone in the media and advertising industry create, noted that they are all essential yet once you are done with writing, they will be considered trash. Honestly, I want to contribute for a greener environment and I know I can make money from the clutter after passing by junk shops near the neighborhood.

With the help of my assistant (I suggest you work with another person so you won’t easily give up), we sorted CDs, papers, folders, plastic, cartons, Amsterdam pens etc. Every minute the study looked brighter with the absence of clutter. We sorted them in paper bags so they are easier to sell. Each item has a different price per kilo in the junk shop.

We hauled everything in the car and to the junk shop. I made Php 136 or around $4 from trash! I know it’s small but at least it was a double whammy. I decluttered and earned at the same time. Of course, I also did make mother earth proud 🙂

We also managed to declutter my closet and my old (though most are unused) clothes will be sold per piece, some given to children, and some made into a rag. Surely, I will make at least $50 from everything inside my closet.

It’s important to move the items you’ve sorted right away. It makes you feel more accomplished and you’ll feel and see the effect of decluttering right away instead of still being able to see them (such an eyesore!).
