Working Mom: How to Enjoy a Full Life

The title may sound ambitious but there are ways to enjoy a full life, even when you feel it’s impossible. I’ve been a working mom for 3 years now and I’m not lying when I say I’ve never enjoyed my life as much as I do now. Looking back, I had significantly more time when I was single but that didn’t equate to having a full life. That means that free time is not the measurement of enjoying life, as many would believe.

First, ask yourself: What does having a full life mean for me?

For some it could mean becoming a successful homemaker, raising well-rounded children, or pursuing a career. For many, a full life means a combination of all three – and more! Only you can identify what your definition of a full life mean. Once you know it, you’ll feel significantly better in trying to achieve this balance.

Live positively and in the moment

Living in the moment is becoming more difficult with all the distractions that exist. But know that you have the power to control and filter all of these. Take control of your thoughts, think of the now more than yesterday and tomorrow. Living in the moment is a lot more positive and productive than worrying about the future. Think about all the opportunities people miss simply because they were not paying attention. These opportunities can include those that will lead you to achieve your definition of a full life.

Worrying about the future and wallowing in the past are most likely being critical about yourself. Thoughts are powerful and negative thoughts only bring health problems like highblood pressure, hypertension, and heart disease.

Live simply so you can simply live

As soon as a woman becomes pregnant, the urge to “nest” automatically kicks in. This is the process of collecting more than enough baby clothes, accessories, and other necessities. Although, many would agree that a lot of us regardless of gender and status, spend a lot of time thinking of the next thing we want to “buy”. Sometimes, right after payday!

Unsurprisingly, this creates even more reasons to worry about the future. Then there’s the burden of stuff. The more stuff you have, the more expenses, the less time, money, and space you have. In the same manner, the more you eat, the heavier you weight and the less healthy you become.

When it comes to health, simple and natural are also best. I personally drink wheatgrass instead of softdrinks, drink less caffeine, and use more herbs in my cooking (not seasoning).  Here are basic herbs/natural remedies and what they are good for:

  • Hawthorn Berry – for a healthy heart

  • Ginkgo Biloba – for the arteries

  • Garlic Oil – for blood

  • Lemon Balm – for the nerves

Try applying the principles of frugality and minimalism in your life. A full life does not mean full of material possessions like many of us think. The less things we have and the simpler we become, the better we enjoy life’s real pleasures like spending time with loved ones, learning, and discovering nature.
