In Her Shoes is a new lifestyle magazine TV show being aired on 2nd Avenue. I enjoyed yesterday’s episode featuring the talented artist, Rellie Liwag. It was my first time to watch the show and I have watched similar attempts at lifestyle magazine shows in Philippine TV.

China Cojuangco is surprisingly the most pleasant host I have seen after a long time. She is soft-spoken but speaks with clarity & brevity. Her movements are not distracting and she really does focus on getting more from her guests rather than talking about herself.
While watching In Her Shoes, I thought I’d take some notes from China and Rellie that I’d share on this blog for mommies of all ages.
Pursuing dreams at any age
One of the secrets to a happy family life is to pursue your passion, even after having children. Rellie encourages women to break the mold. It is okay to try different things in different times of your life. When Rellie was younger, she was into modelling, then into real estate business, then found her passion and talent in painting.
When you follow your heart, the money is less but do what you love. It is also important to have a supportive husband while women undergo change of paths. Rellie attended workshops here and abroad, explored different places and culture.

Don’t feel the need to be stuck at home and miserable, unless your passion is within your home. Rellie and China agree that being adventurous in life can also strengthen marital relationships because you have new things to talk about everyday.
One of my personal worries is when my son grows up. In Her Shoes reminded viewers that this is why sticking to your interest and being adventurous shouldn’t stop when we become mothers. For instance, Rellie Liwag’s children are already grown up. She is there when they need her but life did not stop when her children left their nest.
Find your Me Time & Place
Artist Rellie Liwag encourages women to find a space free of distraction so you cam focus on your passion. She believes that God speaks to us in quiet place and He directs to you energy to do what you love.
You don’t need money to find peace & quiet because you can find this in nature. Rellie feels and sees God in nature and she believes that God gave everyone talents and when we don’t use it, it will be taken away from us. Having quiet time allows us to reflect on the best way to use our talents and live our lives to the fullest.

Dont be afraid, just do it, and follow your dreams. Do what makes you happy despite the norms of society.
