Inside your medicine cabinet

Hi Mommies, I am sure talk about our children’s health sends shivers to your spine. I used to feel that way until I made certain measures that will make me worry less. This includes stocking up our medicine cabinet with the right medicines. Before proceeding to the rest of this post, make sure you are aware of your kid’s allergies to medicine and only follow your doctor’s advice.

The hot and cold, wet and dry season makes it a breeding ground for viruses, bacteria, and lots of diseases. In our country, this season spans almost the entire year making fever, coughs, and cold a regular illness to not only our children but also ourselves. Not to mention, the availability of Bulk Candy almost everywhere. Personally, I panic when I feel Ashton gets fever or has the worst cough. I’d run down the stairs and check if there are leftover medicines inside the fridge. Fortunately, I always find something but what if they ran out? So, I made it a point to have a well-stocked “pedia” medicine cabinet which includes:

1. Paracetamol – for fever, headaches, and minor aches

2. Cough medicine – I have several brands including Ascof Lagundi cough syrup for kids depending on the severity of the cough

3. Cetirizine and Antihistamine – for allergies, itchiness, to alleviate sneezing and cough

4. Vitamin C – you can double the dose when your kid has colds, two times a day

5. Antibiotic – but ask your Doctor first before giving any dose of antibiotic as this is prescribed medicine.

Our experience with Ascof Lagundi

A few days after getting roseola, Ashton developed coughs because roseola weakens the immune system. I gave him Lagundi that was sent to us to trial. I read Lagundi leaves have similar and familiar compounds like anti-histamine that as I noted, relaxes the muscles and lungs. To be honest, I read the literature very well before giving it to Ashton because I am not into alternative natural medicine. But I remember how some relatives get Lagundi leaves from the backyard to treat themselves, and hey they are well and still alive. So I said, okay it’s worth giving a trial.

The Verdict

Ashton took Lagundi syrup in sweet orange flavor and did not belch it out so that’s definitely thumbs up. We didn’t observe drowsiness or irritability while he was on medication and the phlegm appears to be expelled easily (sorry for the graphic). After about 3-4 days, his cough has turned into a regular cold. Yipee!

So I say, I am giving Lagundi and other “safe” natural medicines a chance and in this instant, Ascof Lagundi works just as well or even better than the medicine we are all used to. Ashton finished only two 5ml vials and already said bye bye to ubo and plema 🙂
