Joni’s Cleaning tips for Mommies

My sister Joni who lives with her family in Australia recently paid me and Ashton a visit. She tends to her family by herself, no yayas or other relatives to help out except for her busy husband.

Me and my Ate Joni

Eversince she transferred to Australia, she has learned to work fast and get things done fast. When I was in OZ, I didn’t pay any attention to her cleaning techniques until now that I have a baby.

My nursery looks clean but I didn’t realize there are tons of useless boxes, trash, etc. I also get lazy to clean because I felt I had no place for everything plus it really feels good to catch up on lost sleep. But after learning her cleaning tips, I’ve managed to clear out the nursery in less than an hour.

1. Before you start, look around. If you don’t use something, throw it. Yes, throw it. Grab a big plastic bag and go gaga on your throwing spree. Examples: empty boxes of nursing pads, scratch papers that are 10 years old, empty containers, biscuits that have been stored unconsumed for months. Extra supplies such as alcohol, diapers, should be transferred elsewhere.

2. Now that you have more room with all the rubbish you’ve collected and thrown, grab a cleaning product such as Windex to wipe counter tops, mirrors, and glasses with. Using a cleaning product makes everything faster, stains are removed in seconds, and it even makes things smell good.

3. Grab a broom and sweep like crazy.

4. Spray the room with Lysol which would clean the air and make the room smell good.

Whew! This is just the best way to clean and before everything else, make sure you have everything you need like a broom, a cloth for wiping surfaces, dust pan, and the cleaning products.

I’ve collected lots of trash which were ignored and we held to dearly. If there is one golden rule I learned from my “ate” or older sister, it is this:- If you are not using it, throw it!

Now my baby’s room is clean and it feels lighter. I’ve started throwing things from my bedroom as well. Remember, throwing can also mean to give-away, so some stuff I gave to neighbors and friends.

Don’t be afraid to let go of your stuff, we intend to hoard and it just creates rubbish and clutter.

Thank you to my sister Joni! 🙂
