SM Kid

When we moved houses, over a decade ago – we didn’t expect that an SM supermall will be built just outside of our village. My sister Joni and I, make that the entire family, counted the days to the mall opening for no specific reason but excitement 🙂 It’s so near our place we only have to ride the tricycle to get there and so when we were younger, not a week passed without paying SM a visit. It seems my son Ashton feels the same way about SM.

This month alone, Ashton would go to SM at least two times a week. Either with me or with my aunt we call Yeyey. It’s as if he can sense whenever someone is dressed to go out and do some shopping or errands. There’s also a place Ashton loves called Wonderland and I just have to spare 60 bucks for 30 minutes of pure happiness for my son – with all the toys and kids waiting to play with him.

Although I have learned to stop myself from retail therapy, going to the mall is a big part of my childhood memories – my sister Joni and I would go to Megamall and fight. My mom will give us about 300 each to spend and it was thrilling to see all the things waiting to be bought! We would window shop and loot at quirky stuff like stationery, clothes, shoes, funny sports trophies, etc. Then there’s pondering which restaurant to eat in, which books to browse, etc.

One thing I wish is for Ashton to enjoy more than the mall, that is – if our government learns to develop national and local parks 🙂 Active play is really important to me as I am always trying hard to be active and moving even when working.

How does your children enjoy the mall?
