Cough syrups: Which are the best for moms?

Can you imagine the last time you were sick? It could be a bad case of flu, coughs, colds and all. No one would ever wish to become hit with these common ailments, especially moms! I’ve been sick for a week now and feel like my lungs will get coughed out anytime soon. Sleeping is a daunting task, coughs keep everyone up all night. So yesterday I made it a point to get the best remedy in town. I’ve tried the natural cough syrup called Lagundi and another mucolytic called Solmux. None seem to work really and then I remembered another medicine called Benadryl.

Benadryl is actually an antihistamine and while I like playing doctor to myself, I know it can suppress sneezing and perhaps coughing too. And here’s the best part – it has a side effect which I needed the most: drowsiness. So last night I got a bottle (make sure it’s the classic solution, not the non-drowsy variant) and took 2 teaspoons before hitting the sack, immediately I felt groggy and off I was to dreamland. It was 8 hours of straight uninterrupted hibernation. Although in the morning I still felt the drowsiness but perhaps it was due to the coughs which returned before I could say good morning.

Still, I am happy I can put myself to sleep and not disturb my son with all the coughing noise. Also I am thankful for working from home, if I were still in one of those Travel Jobs then I’d have more of a challenge especially so when coming in sick.

I hope my little review of all these medicines help you moms out there 🙂
